Art is descended from William1 "The Pilgrim" SHERMAN (as yet unproven ties to Dedham clan). His lineage continues with: Samuel2, Samuel3, Samuel4, Elijah5, Isaac6, Isaac7, Daniel8, Alfred9, Lillian10, Art11 COHAN. He was born in Mt. Vernon, NY, grew up in Baltimore, MD and Hubbard, OH, and now lives in Harlingen (deep south on the Gulf coast), Texas with wife Debbie and her "zoo" of animals.
Retiring from the Marines in 1978 after a great 20-year career in electronics, Art and his family (ex-wife and six wonderful children) moved to Harlingen, where he spent several years teaching at a private military academy.

Divorced
in 1989, he and Debbie McClure were
engaged in 1993, when she suffered a nearly fatal accident just a week
before their marriage. Debbie's resultant head injury caused a total
loss
of memory, and Art fully retired to become her hubby and care-giver. As
her recovery progressed in late 1994, she began asking about her
deceased
father's family - and his adventure into the world of Family History
began. Today Art concentrates most of his time and energies with Debbie or some his 13 grandchildren or six great-grandsons. Art and Debbie died July 15, 2013. These pages remain as a lasting memorial to Art's dedication to Sherman research. |
I descend from William "The Pilgrim" Sherman, of Plymouth/Marshfield, MA in 1632, with four (so far) Mayflower lines via female connections (Cooke, Doty, Hopkins & Warren).
I maintain two Sherman databases (totaling over 100,000 names, so far) on FTM 4.4. These include one on my William line, and one on the rest of the Shermans, including the other five main early Sherman immigrants to New England (and lines of Gen. W.T. and Hon. Roger who signed all four founding documents), and "Unknown" ancestry, where I enter all queries I see (that I cannot find) and then try to "match up" about once a week, for others. This second file now contains many variant spellings, and numerous other lines of Shermans immigrating thru other ports and migrating into the south.
My files, sans any living persons born after 1920, are the basis for the GEDCOMs posted on the SHERMAN immigrants and descendants page, and on my WorldConnect database (linked from the Immigrants page).
