Society Memberships

Amelia Carter Kennedy employed the services of a genealogist, Mrs. Elisha Edgerton Rogers of Norwich Connecticut, to research her lines and provide proof of critical points so that she could apply for membership in various patriotic societies. Some of the correspondence is available on these pages, along with the proof that was verified by judges, county clerks and others. Beginning with this page I am providing scans of membership certificates and applications (where available) for Amelia Carter Kennedy. I am not a member of any of these societies.

The 1913 application for membership is similar to that for the DAR and others. She used Edmund Ingalls (first of Lynn and later Andover, Massachusetts). All four sides of the approved and notarized copy have been scanned. Page 1, page 2, page 3, page 4 (the images are large).

Joseph Carter page 2, page 3
James Pendleton page 2, page 3
Nathaniel Spalding page 2, pg 3

The three documents I have scanned are all labeled "supplemental claim." A cousin has her certificate. The back of her pin is inscribed "A.C.K. 1006 PA."

Joseph Carter, of Canterbury, Connecticut, is first. This seems to be a rough draft, but it does contain pertinent names and dates. This is the same ancestor as was used in the first DAR application.

James Pendleton, probably born in England, was a citizen of Watertown, Massachusetts, and died in Westerly, Rhode Island. The line is through her mother, Olive Ingalls Carter. This application is completed, signed, and notarized in 1910.

Nathaniel Spalding (Spaulding) of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, and Plainfield, Connecticut, is also an ancestor to Amelia through her mother. This application was completed and notarized in 1908. Accompanying this claim are two pages of information. They have been scanned (page 1 and page 2) for the extensive reference list.
