Setauket Lake, mailed in 1913. Behind the boat is the house built c. 1780 by Ralph Hawkins. At the right is the Satterly House, built in the late 1600's. For an enlargement of the buildings, click here. |
Left: Lake Street, Setauket, across from the Neighborhood House. For an enlargement of the houses click here. The house at the far right is the second house from the right in the postcard above. The bottom sign says Stony Brook. |

These pictures were taken in March of 2002. This house on Lake Street was built in 1872 by Jesse Smith Howell, sea captain. |
Left: A Greene picture of kids on the bridge over the mill pond about 1907. Right: "The Corners." The road going to the front right is Lake Street. |
Left: "Lake View, Setauket, L. I., Feather Photo" showing the Neighborhood House at the left. |
"Corner -- Main Street, Setauket, L. I." The old bridge is the same as in the next postcard, but this is long before the Setauket post office was built. Both of the buildings, now gone, were stores at one time. Below the right one is written "Feather," the photographer. For an enlargement of the buildings, click here. |
Left: is the earlier bridge to Old Field. This is not dated. The small white, single story, building to the right of the bridge is the old Setauket Post Office, shown in the card at right, that was mailed in 1925. None of the buildings seen remain. | |

This picture taken in March of 2002 shows the stone bridge that replaced the one above and a clearer glimpse of the newer post office. For a closer picture, complete with one of the local swans, of the bridge, click here. |
"Post Office, Setauket, L. I." On the back is written "The Setauket (L. I.) Post Office stands along-side the lower mill pond and the Melville Memorial. The Corinthian Columns use American corn as their motif." It was built in 1941 and is still used as a post office annex. For a 2001 picture of the Setauket Post Office, click here. |
