"Main Street, Port Jefferson, L. I."Main Street, Port Jefferson
The colored card was probably printed after the church was sold in 1912. The steeple has been removed from the building. The location is close to where East Main Street splits to the right and Main Street curves to the left. Note the trolley tracks.

Dirt Main Street with Buggies
This real photo postcard shows part of Main Street, looking south, before it was paved. This was taken just south of the Presbyterian/Masonic building (see next card). The stores on the right are labeled "O.S. Clagett Port Jefferson Laundry" and "Jacob Mueller Soda Water Ice Cream." For an enlargement of two buggies and the stores, click here.

Main Street Port Jefferson, 1912 Port Jefferson Main Street 1912"Main Street, Port Jefferson, N. Y." Mailed in 1912. This view would be looking north. At the left is a store sign that, in part, advertises Ales. The location is close to that of the card below.

The Methodist Episcopal Church was built in 1836 and moved to it's current location on Main Street in 1873. It is still there with much of the beautiful detail intact. For another view, click here.
Main Street Port Jefferson, 1908
"Main Street Port Jefferson, N. Y." mailed in 1908. At the right is the Methodist church, and further down the street on the left is the building that was the Presbyterian church at the time, but is now, with the tower removed, the Masonic hall.

Parker's Pond "Parker's Pond, Port Jefferson, N.Y." mailed in 1909. On the bottom left it says "C. S. Dickerson Jewelry & Stationery." This is actually Crystal Lake, but because it was owned by A. J. Parker, it was commonly called Parker's. The Methodist Church is in the background. The pond was filled in 1948.

Port Jefferson Fire Department, mailed in 1907. The wagon says "Rescue Hose Company". On the back, in different handwriting from the sender's, is written, "PJFD Granpa Westphal - Front row 2nd left." For an enlargement of just the men, click here.

This "Photo By Waters" is of the building which is now known as Theatre Three and previously was Athena Hall at 412 Main Street. The sign over the door says, "The Port Jefferson Amusements. At the right edge are boards with posters stating, in part, "Last Week... A Yankee in Cuba." Parker's Pond is behind the building.

Upper Main Street, 1912"Main Street North from M. E. Church" Fred C. Griswold & Co. Garage. Published by Chester Darling, Port Jefferson. Right: "Upper Main Street" mailed in 1912. In the distance on the right is the Methodist church.
