Mount Sinai, NY

Sources of history include: History of Miller's Place, by Margaret Davis Gass, 1971; Images of America: Mount Sinai, by Ann M. Becker, 2003.
Mt. Sinai Road "...And Road Mt. Sinai" by A. S. Greene, 1907. The words "Post Office" were covered, putting the date of the printing a little later. On the right is the post office building, pictured below.

The Joseph Phillips house, built in the early 1700's, was used as a post office beginning in the 1840's. Right: "Old Mt. Sinai Post Office" by A. S. Green. This real photo postcard was mailed in 1909.

Post Office and General Store "Post Office and General Store - Mount Sinai, L. I." The sign on the roof says "A. Liebmann General Store." This was the post office until 1975. It is on the corner of North Country and Mount Sinai-Coram Roads.

Mt. Sinai School by GreeneMt. Sinai Public School photo postcards by A. S. Greene. On the left is the school in 1906. Right: After the portion of the school in front of the belfry was added in 1908. At the same time the entrance at the side was added and the windows changed.

Left: "Hills at Mt. Sinai" about 1908. Old Post Road with Shore Road in the foreground. The houses are still there. The one on the right no longer has it's porch.
Right: Samuel Hopkin's House and Cornfield about 1917.

Davis Island "Davis Island, Mt. Sinai, N. Y." Another copy of this card also says, "Bathing - Boating - Fishing" as and advertisement for the summer vacation is spot developed by Capt. Daniel Davis.

Hopkins Place 1907 "A Turn in the Road at Hopkins Place, Mt. Sinai." by A. S. Greene. Mailed in 1907 to Setauket. "Home" is written on the front, but without a name. Built in 1816 by Samual Hopkins. It is on the corner of North Country and Shore Roads.
