Middle Neck Road, Great Neck Corner Middle Neck and Hicks Lane"Middle Neck Road, Great Neck, L. I." Mailed in 1906 with the comment "This is where I hang out." The bank was on the corner of Arrandale Avenue. Hicks Pharmacy is on the corner of Hicks Lane. Right: new building and now Zeifman's Pharmacy and stop lights.

Middle Neck Road Middle Neck Road Stores"Middle Neck Road, Great Neck, L. I., N. Y." Not mailed, but possibly the 1920's. At the right is the same long building shown at the right in the postcard near the intersection of Beach in August 2001. Those to the left are different.

Steamboat Road Steamboat Landing"View on Steamboat Road, Great Neck, N. Y." At the end of Steamboat Road was the landing.

Right: Steamboat Landing,  where the steamboat to New York City stopped.


Arrandale Avenue LibraryLeft: "No 7 - Arrandale Avenue, Great Neck, N. Y." This card was mailed in 1912. Right: Great Neck Library, mailed in 1917, but printed several years before that in Germany. This was the first library building, built in 1907, on Arrandale Avenue.

Great Neck High School 1909 "High School, Great Neck, L. I." The card was mailed in 1909. This building was built on Arrandale in 1869, with the belfry and bell, as a general public school. This view shows the expanded version. It burned down in 1920.

"Great Neck High School" Left is the west wing of the Arrandale School, built in 1914, from the side. Right is the expanded school on Arrandale Avenue and the corner Middle Neck Road. Originally the expanded school housed all grades, but later was only an elementary school. It was closed in 1976 and demolished.

Band Stand Band Stand 2001"Band Stand, The Park; Great Neck." Right is a picture taken in August 2001. This view of the Village Green Park once showed the back of the Arrandale school. The gazebo pictured was built in 1928. For a picture of the dedication plaque in the floor center, click here.

Great Neck High School Great Neck High School, Great Neck, Long Island, NY. The street that leads to the school is Brokaw Lane. This card was mailed in the late 1940s. The school district has a picture of the building under construction, October 15, 1928. It is on the former Brokaw estate on Polo Road and opened in 1929.
Great Neck High School, 2001
The Great Neck High School building, now the John L. Miller Great Neck North High School, as it looked in August of 2001. Trees and bushes make it difficult to see, but it is basically the same. The street sign says "NIRVANA AV".
