De Kalb, Illinois This postcard is a picture of pictures labeled "Brooks Photo." It was printed between the World Wars. For a black and white enlargement of the left column ("Scene on E. Left: "West Main Street from top of Bee Hive Block." Brooks Pharmacy at the right. Mailed in 1907. Right: "Main Street Scene." The street is now East Lincoln Highway. Many of these buildings are still there. On the far side of the small white building is Glidden House.

Looking East From 2nd, 2001 Left: Lincoln Highway looking east from between 1st and 2nd. Glidden House on the north east corner of 2nd is gone. Colors have changed (assuming the card was colored correctly in the first place), but much remains - even awnings. At the far end the "Bee Hive" block can be seen.

Lincoln Highway 1914 DeKalb Lincoln Highway around the 1960sLincoln Highway east from close to 1st. The first building on the left, Chronicle & B.P.O.E, is still there. Mailed in 1914. The Beehive Section, 2001 Left: The "Bee Hive" section of East Lincoln, fall 2001 from 3rd. The tall building at the left edge is still there. Signs have been painted over signs on the side. The train still crosses at grade level.

Lincoln From Fourth about 1924 Left: E. Lincoln west of 4th. A sign hanging from the restaurant marquee says, in part, "1923 Automobile Blue Book." After the Innovation Cafe is Buckaloo-Riipi-Burroughs Co. Clothing, then Rendell, Florist, Drugs, and Clothing. On the south side is a barber and a taylor. Right: a photo of a meat store (unknown address) featuring Swift's Premium. Click here for a large detail of part of the store.

"E. Lincoln Highway, E. of Third St." mailed in 1929, but it was probably taken about the same time as the one above. The sign on the right light post looks like a one-way sign, but points to a rest room. Right: Interior of Sheets & Knodle store, 1909, location unknown.

Main Street, Kirchner Pharmacy Kirchner Drug StoreLeft: "Maine Street" looking west from 3rd showing Kirchner's Pharmacy and J. A. Watson & Co. at this end and Glidden House, before the balconies were removed, at the corner of 2nd. Right: "Interior View of Kirchner's Drug Store, Opera House Block... 'The Largest and Finest Drug Store West of Chicago.'"

Kirchner Trade Card for watches Kirchner Trade Card watch offerThis trade card is from Kirchner's Drug Store and Seventh Street Pharmacy. When a customer spent $10 in the store they were entitled to buy a watch at the discounted price. Sold in the store were paints, school supplies, cigars, candies, sodas, and Christmas gifts.

Smith Hardware Store 1909 "Interior View of C. F. Smith's Hardware Store at 223 Main Street, DeKalb, Illinois: Showing a Fine Display of Jewel Ranges and Stoves. A Part of Your Patronage Will Be Appreciated." Mailed in 1909. The name of the street has changed, but the building is still there and is known as 223 East Lincoln Highway.
