Dickinson School of Law Old Dickinson Law SchoolLeft: Dickinson School of Law, Trickett Hall was built in 1917 and is located on South College Street. Right: Emory Hall, the law school from 1890 to 1918, before World War I. The school is now part of Penn State University.

High Street detail "High Street looking west from public square."High Street looking west At the far left is a detail from a different card of the same vintage with a variation in coloring. The view at the left shows the tracks (train - not trolley) down the middle of the street and Denny Hall at the far end on the right.

Arches at the Square, 1909 Although this real photo postcard is not labeled, another card showing the same arches is labeled, "Arches at Square, Old Home Week, Aug. 23 to 28, 1909, Carlisle, Pa." To the right is the Old Market House and on the left can be seen a trolley. The card was mailed from Carlisle in October of 1909.

Market House, Carlisle "Market House, Carlisle, PA." mailed in 1916. It was published "expressly for Trimmer's Busy 5 & 10 ¢ Stores." Built in 1878, it was torn down in 1952.

Mansion House Mansion House, Carlisle. "Stayed here all night June 12, 1918"

Steam Train up Main Left: "Steam Train Running up Main Street" Now called High Street. Mailed before World War I. The person who sent it wrote, "Here is where the rail road runs through the center of the street."
Right: another view before the street was paved.

Last Train on High Street TicketLeft: "Carlisle Last Train on High Street October 16, 1936." In the distance is the Denny Hall tower. The train is number 5011.
Right: A ticket good for the last passenger train on High Street and the first to enter the new station.

Cumberland Valley Rail Road Station "C. V. [Cumberland Valley] Depot - W. Main St. [West High Street looking west], Carlisle, PA." Mailed in 1907. One of the wagons belongs to the New Wellington Hotel. Click here for another picture mailed in 1909.

Right: an unusual perspective of the station.


Kronenberg's Hanover Street looking southAt the left, "Our New Building, Compliments of S. Kronenberg's Sons, 6 and 8 S. Hanover St." On the top corners of the building are the dates 1866 and 1907. The card was mailed in 1908. On the right, "Hanover Street, looking south from public square." The tallest building on the left is the Hotel Carlisle.
Wellington Hotel, Carlisle "New Wellington Hotel, Carlisle, Pa." A note on the back is dated 1915.
